James White (1799-1851)

When James White was born on July 1, 1799, in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, his father, James White, was 34 and his mother, Ann (Pritchard) White, was 34. He married Elizabeth Bailey on February 12, 1827, in Monroe County, Georgia. They had six children in 20 years. He died in 1851 in Meriwether County, Georgia, at the age of 52.

Marriage

While some researchers suggest that his wife's maiden name was Elizabeth Anderson, evidence indicates that it was Elizabeth Bailey, born about 1808 in Georgia. Almost no information has been found about Elizabeth's family. According to the 1880 U.S. Census, each of her parents were born in SC. She died in Meriwether County, GA in 1880.

Children

James and Elizabeth are believed to have had four daughters and two sons:

  • Susan Catherine White (1830–1870), m Henry Ervin Chapman (1826–1895) on 18 Oct 1846 in Meriwether County, GA. They had about six daughters and three sons.
  • Mary G White (1836–1837) died in infancy.
  • Jacob Marion White (1840–1914), m Rachel Caroline Woodall (1845–1923) on 8 Dec 1859 in Meriwether County, GA. They had about four daughters and nine sons.
  • Henrietta White (1844–1884), m William Andrew Jackson Woodall (1843–1923) on 27 Oct 1859 in Talbot Vounty, GA. They had six daughters and three sons.
  • James Kenyon White III (1845–1925); four or five wives and about thirteen children.
  • C. Elizabeth B. "Bettie" White 1850–1920, probably married William F Jenkins (1844–1919) and had three plus children. Caution: source data is very limited and these are both extremely common names. Conclusions of other researchers should be examined carefully.
